Excala/Compañía de Empaques Full-Year 2025 Profits Soar Year-on-Year

Medellin-based international fibers and packaging specialist Grupo Excala/Compañía de Empaques on March 12 posted a 460% year-on-year profits improvement for full-year 2025, hitting COP$29 billion (US$7.8 million), versus COP$4.9 billion (US$1.08 million) in 2024.

“Sales reached $773 billion [US$209 million], an increase of 10.8% compared to the previous year,” while earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) rose 18% year-on-year, to COP$80 billion (US$21.7 million), according to the company.

The group benefitted from lower acquisition costs for synthetic fibers, which “allowed us to maintain stable prices throughout the year despite significant increases in labor costs (reduced working hours, wages), freight, energy, and other indirect manufacturing costs,” according to the company.

On the other hand, the cost of natural fique fiber – which the company uses for producing bags for coffee beans and other products – “has been increasing in price throughout 2025 and into early 2026. Nevertheless, we remain committed to Colombian agriculture and supporting the farmers and indigenous communities who derive their livelihood from this natural fiber,” according to Compañía de Empaques.

As for subsidiary operations, “Compañía de Empaques Internacional continues to post positive results, driven primarily by demand from the Mexican market, which is served from its plant,” according to the company.

“However, volume limitations in [that manufacturing plant’s] growth capacity are impacting profitability, as operating costs and expenses (such as personnel, energy, and rent) continue to rise, and the ability to expand sales volume is becoming increasingly restricted.”

As for Compañía de Empaques distribution business in Colombia, “Texcomercial saw a significant improvement in its results, driven mainly by lower interest rates, which boosted consumption in the local market,” the company added.
