Isagen 1Q 2025 Net Income Jumps 74% Year-on-Year
Medellin-based renewable electric power giant Isagen announced May 14 that its first quarter (1Q) 2025 net income soared 74% year-on-year, to COP$344 billion (US$82 million), from COP$198 billion (US$47 million) in 1Q 2024.
Revenues rose 6% year-on-year, to COP$1.4 trillion (US$333 million), while earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) rose 31%, to COP$978 billion (US$232 million), according to the company.
Gross profit on sales also increased 33% year-on-year, “primarily due to higher revenues and a decrease in operating costs due to the lower quarterly energy price on the [Colombian power trading] exchange” compared to 1Q 2024, according to the company.
In Colombia, accumulated electric-power demand via the National Interconnected System (SIN) during 1Q 2025 was 20,305 gigawatt-hours (GWh), down 1% from 1Q 2024.
During 1Q 2025, Colombian hydropower contributions to the SIN were 19% above the national historical average, while aggregate water levels at hydroelectric dam reservoirs closed 1% below the historical average.
“Isagen’s power generation during the latest quarter was 4,082 GWh, 33% higher than the same period last year due to higher water inputs [to hydroelectric dams] during the quarter, the start-up of the Bosques Solares de Bolivar solar photovoltaic plants, and higher wáter reservoir levels in the second half of 2024,” the company added.
Of Isagen’s 27 renewable power plants in Colombia, 15 are hydroelectric, 10 are solar photovoltaic, and two are wind-power plants.
