Haceb Whirlpool Launches Washing-Machine Production in Antioquia

Haceb Whirlpool Inc. (HWI) — a new joint venture between Antioquia-based household appliance manufacturer Haceb and global “white goods” giant Whirlpool – on August 27 officially launched production of washing machines at a new, US$50 million factory adjacent to Haceb facilities in the Medellin suburb of Copacabana, Antioquia.

The plant, initially employing 250, will produce more than 400,000 washing machines per year, according to HWI.

Aside from the new plant here in Antioquia, the only other plants in Latin America producing washing machines are in Mexico and Brazil, according to HWI.

The machines will be marketed under both the “Haceb” and “Whirlpool” brand names throughout Latin America.

Haceb has been producing household appliances (including refrigerators, water heaters, air conditioners and ovens) for 75 years at its Antioquia plant. The company sells its products in 14 countries including Latin America and the United States.

Sales last year hit US$224 million, according to the company.
