Uber, Avianca, Materialise, Optiva Media, Netcentric Seek Bilingual Candidates

Medellin continues to see growth in demand for bilingual and high-tech job candidates, as evidenced in a new series of postings to LinkedIn and CareerMine web-sites.

Among recent postings:

1. Uber: This alternative-transport pioneer is seeking an “activation center coordinator” for its Medellin office.

According to the posting,“we’re seeking site coordinators to help build a global network of in-person driver-partner support centers.

“Uber Activation Centers (UACs) help new partners get on the road for the first time, build engagement with the platform over time, and provide a home base for the driver community.

“The Activation Center Coordinator is responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the Center, and leading a team of representatives. In this role, you will lead representatives by example on how best to build Uber’s relationship with partners, support their operational needs. and manage the day-to-day operations of the UAC.

The candidate would “work with the Activation Center Manager to build out schedules, record attendance, and aid in the general administration of representatives” as well as “train, coach, and guide representatives to drive quality and efficiency metrics.”

The candidate must have have a Bachelor’s degree with “one-to-three-years of relevant experience, demonstrated background in solving complex customer problems” and “customer support team management experience is strongly preferred.”

2. Avianca: This airline giant is seeking a human-resources/psychology expert in Medellin with at least a 70% command of English.

According to the posting, the candidate would be responsible for finding prospective employees for operating and administrative posts.

Avianca is expanding its aircraft maintenance operations at Medellin’s international airport at Rionegro.

3. Materialise: This Belgium-based company is seeking an account manager at its Medellin office.

According to the posting, Materialise builds and markets a “Mimics Innovation Suite” image-processing software for biomedical researchers. The technology “converts medical images into accurate 3D models. As such it provides a link between MRI/CT images and rapid prototyping, finite element analysis and CAD,” according to the company.

“The software is used in different application areas, ranging from patient-specific device design to population analyses. Among our customers are top universities, orthopedic, CMF and cardiac companies.”

The account manager candidate would “promote and sell our software and services portfolio” and “achieve sales targets and accurately forecast sales within your territory (LATAM),” according to the posting.

The candidate must be a biomedical engineer, a mechanical engineer or have a biomedical sciences degree, with three years of experience in sales, have “native-level” Spanish fluency and “mandatory” proficiency in English, according to the posting.

4. Velocity Partners: This company is seeking a “Senior Ruby” software developer for its Medellin office.

According to the posting, the candidate must be familiar with Ruby 2.2.1, Rails 4.1.13, Puma as Application server, Database Postgresql 9.3 and Grape as API.

The candidate also must have “upper-intermediate/advanced” English competency, according to the posting.

5. Optiva Media: This digital-broadcast development company is seeking a “senior embedded software developer” for its Medellin office.

According to the posting, Optiva is seeking a “senior C++ developer experienced in embedded software. Knowledge of the IPTV standards is a plus” and “very high English knowledge is required.”

6. Netcentric: This European company is seeking a “senior backend developer” with “strong verbal and written English language skills” for its Medellin office.

According to the posting, “we’re looking for a senior software engineer to lead web development projects for major international customer.” The candidate must have expertise in Java, JEE and Servlets for the “Adobe Marketing Cloud,” according to the company.

The candidate would “lead and coach teams of developers” as well as “estimate development tasks, pointing-out risks, required provisions and limitations in the process,” plus “perform regular code reviews and share best practices” as well as “define release strategies (including branching, CI and development workflows),” according to the company.


7. Demand Frontier: This company is seeking a technical project manager with a “high level of English” for its Medellin office.

According to the posting, the candidate would “manage software development project activities for multiple projects across all project phases, including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, control and closure. Responsibilities also include working with developers and the project account team to direct the technical approach to system design and implementation, for both new solutions and existing systems.”

8. SGMM S.A.S.: This foreign company is seeking a mining engineer with “excellent command of English” for its Antioquia operations.

According to the posting, the candidate would help initiate mining exploration and production operations and must be able to interpret communications between the company and mining regulatory authorities.
